Corporal Anson B. Shuey, Company C, 93rd Pennsylvania, died September 25, of wounds received at Opequan, Va., Sept 19, 1864. Corporal Shuey is buried at Walmers Church Cemetary, just a short distance away from where the event was held. We placed a wreath upon his gravesite and had a short memorial service for him and numerous other Civil War Veterans buried there. He is one of the hundreds of thousands who lost their lives, and is the reason we do what we do.

When the 93rd received funds from the state of Pensylvania to errect a monument, it was decided to place the state monument where the Veteran's monument originally was, in the field by the Weikert farm. However, the base of the original monument needed to be modified- this is one of the pieces cast aside nearby the newer state monument, still with portions of the engravings visible.
